Families in Portland and surrounds will have access to even better hospital services thanks to a $174,645 Brumby Labor Government boost for new equipment at Colac Area Health.
Announcing the funding boost, Gayle Tierney, Member for Western Victoria said the funding would be used to buy new state-of-the-art medical equipment at Portland District Health.
“This Brumby Labor Government funding boost is providing our hospitals with the most modern and up-to-date equipment available to help ensure that all Victorians have access to quality health services, regardless of where they live,” Ms Tierney said.
“We are providing $174,645 for Portland District Health to purchase:
– Anaesthetic unit
– Gastroscope
– Colonoscope
– Monitor (portable) (x2)
– Laparoscope
– Diathermy unit
“Victoria’s hospitals need to stay abreast of developments and technology to ensure they continue to provide the best possible care to patients.
Ms Tierney said the funding was part of the 2010/11 Targeted Equipment Program, which was delivering $35 million to ensure Victorian hospitals remained at the forefront of new technology with funding for state of the art medical equipment.
“Targeted equipment funding enables hospitals to take advantage of advances in technology in terms of patient treatment and diagnosis,” Ms Tierney said.
“This funding will allow our hard working nurses, doctors and other medical professionals to have access to the best equipment to continue providing quality care to patients in our community.
“The Brumby Labor Government is continuing with its significant investment in rebuilding and improving hospitals.”
