The Andrews Labor Government is continuing to support communities across Western Victoria with the infrastructure and services it needs to grow and thrive.
Minister for Suburban Development Melissa Horne, Minister for Regional Development Harriet Shing and the Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today announced 10 local organisations will receive funding for community projects through the Labor Government’s Living Local Fund. They include:
Corangamite Shire Council | The Light Up Camperdown project seeks to provide support for better social and geographic access for local communities to share cultural and creative experiences and activities. Lighting the streetscape and landscapes benefits include improved traffic flow and safety, greater recognition of the environmental and character value of the town. | $200,000 |
Birregurra Public Hall | Replacing existing ageing, heavy non-stackable chairs and bulky tables with sturdy lightweight stackable chairs on trolleys, and space-saving flip top tables on castors to enable easier maneuverability, allowing a more diverse range of community members to be involved as volunteers. | $20,000 |
Winchelsea Community House Inc. | Re-activate the kitchen in a newly acquired space to a modern, commercial standard, in order to enable hospitality training/courses and community functions/events. | $13,985 |
Colac City Band Inc | Purchase of new blinds and curtains for the building. Currently have very old vertical blinds that are falling apart and no longer open/close properly | $4,591 |
Warrnambool Community Garden Inc. | Replace the ageing, weathered boards on the deck of the garden’s community building, with new decking and deck facings. | $15,492 |
Julia Street Creative Space Inc. | Further improve the facilities and equipment to support interest and participation in the visual and creative arts, and additional options to the broader community for facilitating markets, activities and social functions. | $20,000 |
The Southwest Alternative Medium Project (SWAMP) | Two Rivers Gallery Upgrade Project will see the exterior of the building be given a new lease on life with a fresh coat of paint and a new covered area over the main entrance including a new ramp for safer accessibility. | $16,750 |
Glenelg Shire Council | The installation of public seating, shelters, landscaping and upgrade of barbeques in communal activity spaces along the Portland Foreshore and main retail precincts to encourage community gatherings, increased tourism and enhanced accessibility to retail and recreation spaces for all sectors of the community. | $50,000 |
Heywood Men’s Talk Group Inc | Provide Educational & Visual Presentations for the welfare of members of the Heywood & Regional Community, with a particular focus on vision and hearing impaired seniors. | $5,212 |
Portland Masonic Lodge Project Committee | Provide a Ride on Mower for all abilities to allow a wide range of participants. | $3,599 |
More than 400 projects across the state wil be supported through the Fund, with $15 million available for suburban projects and another $5 million for the regions.
Local councils and community organisations have received grants of up to $200,000 for upgrades to shopping strips, playgrounds, community gardens and public art projects, or to buy new equipment or carry out minor refurbishment works.
From playground upgrades in Pakenham to the creation of an Aboriginal community art gallery in Ballarat, the Living Local Fund is supporting a wealth of diverse and important locally led projects right across Victoria.
The Living Local Fund is part of the Government’s Our Suburbs: Living Local and Our Regions: Living Local Initiatives.
