Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney MP has called on the Portland community to nominate outstanding seniors ahead of this year’s Senior of the Year Awards.
“Seniors in Portland are a vital part of our community and the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards is a great way to recognise their contribution,” Ms Tierney said.
“Each year the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards recognise the outstanding leadership and contributions made by our older Victorians.
“There are five categories in the 2011 Victorian Senior of the Year Awards, so I encourage people to nominate an outstanding Victorian aged 60 and over.”
Ms Tierney said nominations were now open for the following categories:
• Senior of the Year award;
• Council on the Ageing Victorian Senior Achiever Awards;
• Promotion of Multicultural Award;
• Healthy and Active Living Award; and
• Veteran Community Award.
“The Awards are a great way for the community to say thank-you and recognise the many achievements of seniors,” Ms Tierney said.
“A nomination for the Victorian Senior of the Year Awards demonstrates your support and also encourages more seniors to continue to be involved in the community.
“If you know a senior that has achieved something exceptional and would like to nominate them for the 2011 Victorian Senior of the Year Awards, please call or drop into the electorate.”
Application forms are available from Ms Tierney’s electorate office or from www.dpcd.vic.gov.au.
