Mortlake residents will have more opportunities to get physically active thanks to a Bracks Government boost to sport and recreation facilities in the area.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney announced the Moyne Shire Council will receive $60,000 through the Community Facility Funding Program, saying it is crucial local sporting clubs had adequate facilities to give more Victorians the opportunity to get active.
“This money will go towards upgrading the playing surface of the Mortlake Bowls Club,” said Ms. Tierney.
“This funding will encourage greater participation in physical activity by creating more opportunities for people of all abilities to get involved in their local community.”
Ms. Tierney said funding under the Minor Facilities category of the 2007-2008 round of the Community Facility Funding Program would be welcomed by local sports clubs and the wider Mortlake community.
“Quality, accessible community sport and recreation facilities play an important role in building stronger communities across the state.
“We want to make it easier for the community to stay involved in the sports and activities they love, and to lead healthy and active lifestyles.”
Minister for Sport and Recreation James Merlino said the project in Mortlake was amongst 77 projects across Victoria to receive Bracks Government funding worth more than $3.2million under the program.
“At last year’s election we said we would do more to help all Victorians become involved in physically active and healthy lifestyles by supporting local sports and this is further evidence we are delivering on that commitment,” Mr Merlino said.
“This funding program supports the ongoing needs of communities by helping local councils provide quality sport and recreation facilities for their communities, encouraging people to get physically active.
“Through improving and supporting facilities we are providing the community with more opportunities to get involved in their local community.
“The Community Facility Funding Program shows what great results can be achieved when the Government and local communities work together to benefit the community.”
