Camperdown Racecourse is the place to be this Saturday, with plenty of action on and off the track thanks to a funding package worth more than $29,000.
Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney today announced the Andrews Labor Government is investing more than $10,000 from its Victorian Racing Industry Fund – Raceday Attraction Program to support the Camperdown Cup meeting.
The Camperdown Turf Club is also providing more than $10,000 towards the event, while Country Racing Victoria is chipping in $8,000.
The racecourse is one of the most picturesque in regional Victoria and its Federation era grandstand with ornate iron works is heritage listed making it a spectacular setting for the races.
The Camperdown Cup is the club’s annual meeting and the town’s biggest social event of the summer, with more than 3000 people converging on the town for a day at the races.
The meeting has plenty of entertainment for the whole family including a merry-go-round, inflatable jumping castle and slide, and Kelly Sports activities.
There’ll also be live music Melbourne pop – electronic artist Avalon, fashions on the field, and $5 shuttle buses from nearby towns.
Since 1 December 2014, the Labor Government has provided more than $213,000 to support three thoroughbred events and nine infrastructure projects for the Camperdown Turf Club.
The thoroughbred racing industry in regional Victoria generates $716.9 million for the Victorian economy and helps sustain more than 6,100 full time equivalent jobs.
