Sport and recreation organisations in Camperdown will be able to get more locals involved in physical activity, thanks to a boost in Brumby Government funding.
Announcing the first phase of the 2008 Country Action Grant Scheme and Victalent funding, the Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney said the grants helped strengthen grassroots sport and recreation organisations within rural and regional communities.
“These grants help organisations operating at the local level to gain new skills and make physical activity more appealing to people in the community,” Ms Tierney said.
“The Country Action Grant Scheme funds projects which assist organisations to operate more effectively, supports attendance at relevant training courses, and helps organisations provide accessible sport and recreation opportunities for the local community.
“Victalent grants contribute to travel costs for officials, coaches, athletes and teams who travel extensively in order to train and compete,” Ms Tierney said.
Successful organisations will receive up to $5000 through the Country Action Grant Scheme and/or one or two Victalent grants of $500 for travel assistance.
Under the first round of the grants, the Camperdown Angling Club will receive $1,480 for the Camperdown Angling Club Website.
The Minister for Sport and Recreation James Merlino said 155 projects would benefit from funding of more than $178,000 in the first phase of the 2008 grants programs, with second phase funding of a further $175,000 to be announced later in 2008.
