Thousands of cycling enthusiasts will be donning their helmets and lycra in September for one of the biggest events on Australia’s cycling calendar – the 2017 Wiggle Amy’s Gran Fondo.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney MP said the event will be boosted by funding from the Andrews Labor Government’s Regional Events Fund.
Catering to cyclists of all abilities, the event is held on closed roads in one of the most picturesque destinations on the planet – the Great Ocean Road.
Wiggle Amy’s Gran Fondo is held in memory of Amy Gillett and conducted by the Amy Gillett Foundation. Participants raise funds to help the Foundation create a safer bike riding environment.
With almost 12,000 riders taking part over the last two years, this year’s event is expected to attract 150,000 visitors to the region, boosting local businesses and the economy.
With the Gran Fondo World Championships in Varese, Italy next year, the road to the rainbow jersey begins here in Victoria.
Rides include the 120km Wiggle Amy’s Gran Fondo, the 65km Amy’s Gravel Fondo, the 45km Otway Pork Medio Fondo, the 14km Family Fondo, Amy’s Wall, CycloCross and Amy’s Otway Tour.
Our $20 million Regional Events Fund is helping rural and regional communities all over Victoria stage and secure the events that drive visitation and showcase the best of everything the regions offer.
Regional Victoria has something for everyone, and we want everyone to experience it for themselves.
The event will run from 16 and 17 September, 2017. For more information visit www.amysgranfondo.org.au.
