Planning at Torquay’s Banyul-Warri Fields has progressed to an exciting phase, bringing the community closer to a new hockey facility for local players, volunteers and spectators.
Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney announced that the tender process is underway for a head contractor to deliver the new facility for the Surf Coast community.
The facility will include a new hockey pitch equipped with lighting, a scoreboard, spectator seating, and new car parking.
The investment will ensure the Torquay Tornadoes Hockey Club and other community clubs enjoy high-quality facilities for training, competitions, and events for years to come.
As well as boosting local sport, the project will also create opportunities for local contractors, businesses, and suppliers to get involved, strengthening the local economy.
Banyul-Warri Fields is one of 16 projects being delivered through the Allan Labor Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, which includes five projects in the Geelong and Surf Coast regions.
Other major investments in the region include a new indoor sports centre at Armstrong Creek, a new indoor sporting complex at Waurn Ponds, upgrades to Stead Park hockey facility in Corio, and Stage 2 of the Surf Coast Aquatic and Health Centre in Torquay.
The Regional Sports Infrastructure Program is part of the Allan Labor Government’s record $45 billion investment since 2014 in projects and programs supporting rural and regional Victoria as even better places to live, work, stay, and play.
