New volunteers will be recruited and supported in Anglesea, thanks to new Victorian Government funding announced.
The Member for Western Victoria, Ms. Gayle Tierney, said Anglesea and District Community House Inc. had received funding in the latest round of Victorian Volunteer Small Grants.
She said the organisation had received a grant of $3,000 toward its “Making Memories” project which aimed to introduce new people to volunteering and to train and support them to get more involved in the community.
It is one of 24 new projects to benefit from the grants, which are aimed at helping organisations recruit and train volunteers. Grants worth more than $2.5 million have been made so far, helping Victorian volunteer organisations to increase volunteering opportunities.
The Volunteer Small Grants program is part of a $21 million package of support for volunteering and community enterprises. The Victorian Government will invest a further $6 million over the next four years to help people get involved and increase support for volunteers.
The Minister for Victorian Communities, Peter Batchelor, said one million adults, or a third of the Victorian adult population, provided around $10 billion worth of unpaid services each year.
“From coaching kids’ football teams to teaching older people to use the internet or running a local support group, volunteers play an important role in building stronger communities,” Mr Batchelor said.
“It’s no exaggeration to say that many of our most important local organisations, events and services would simply cease to function if volunteers stopped giving their time.”
