The State Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney, today welcomed a grant from the Brumby Government to the Koroit Agriculture Society.
Ms Tierney said the grant would contribute towards the cost of erecting a roof over the sheep pavillion.
“This grant to Koroit Agriculture Society is one of the 44 Agricultural & Pastoral Society Grants totalling nearly $300,000 that we are making for 2007/8,” Ms Tierney said.
“These grants are part of the Brumby Government’s commitment to rural and regional Victoria.”
Ms Tierney said the grant would be paid to Koroit Agriculture Society upon the successful completion of its grant project.
“The project is to be completed by the end of April 2008 so the grant can be paid this financial year.”
Victoria’s Minister for Agriculture, Joe Helper, said there had been more applications this year.
“The Victorian Agricultural Shows Ltd was consulted to ensure the projects met the established criteria,” Mr Helper said.
“Preference was given to Societies who had received small or no grants a grant in the past few years and who had a good history on previous projects.
“The grants are for small scale agricultural projects which directly benefit local agriculture and the Agricultural Society, as well as providing multipurpose community use and meeting Occupational Health and Safety requirements.”
