Grassroots sports received a huge boost in Dennington today thanks to a Bracks Government funding package to upgrade facilities at country football and netball clubs
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney said the Dennington Football Netball Club is one of 25 new projects being funded under that latest round of grants through the $10 million Country Football and Netball Program, a joint State Government and AFL initiative.
“The Dennington Football Netball Club has received $20,000 to enable them to upgrade their toilet amenities at the Dennington Recreation Reserve,” Ms. Tierney said.
“The project will help keep country football and netball clubs alive, as the sports are an essential part of the fabric of country Victoria, Ms. Tierney said.
“The Country Football and Netball Program is a great way to recognise the hard work put in by everyone involved in the club, and to help them kick even more goals,” Ms. Tierney said.
“The latest funding of nearly $900,000 will help more clubs make a range of improvements including ground resurfacing, lighting and facility upgrades.
“We want to make it easier for all the players, coaches and supporters to stay involved in the games they love.
The Minister for Sport and Recreation James Merlino said the Bracks Government is supporting country football and netball clubs to enable more Victorians to get involved in sport and stay connected to their communities.
“The ongoing success of country football and netball clubs is vital to regional communities,” Mr Merlino said.
“By improving facilities across rural and regional Victoria we’re helping encourage locals to take part in physical activities – which is what our Go for your life campaign is all about.”
