Seniors and people living with a disability in Polwarth will be assisted to prepare for extreme weather and tackle climate change in their homes with the help of a $136,975 funding boost from the Commonwealth and State Governments.
State Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney MP today announced that Home and Community Care (HACC) service providers in Polwarth would share in the funding boost.
“We are committed to standing up for senior Victorians by delivering quality services that help older people to stay active and live independently at home,” Ms Tierney said.
“Part of the funds will assist older Victorians and people living with a disability to make changes to their homes to help them stay cool in extreme weather.
“The remaining funds will help community organisations put into action new ways of delivering HACC services that better meet the needs of seniors and people with a disability.”
Ms Tierney said HACC Services help many people to remain independent in their own homes, close to family and friends, for as long as possible.
“Home and Community Care provides practical day-to-day supports that seniors need such as home nursing, meals on wheels and home cleaning,” she said.
Ms Tierney said the Brumby Labor Government understands Victorians are concerned about vulnerable members of our community and that is why we are joining with the Commonwealth Government to invest an additional $5.4 million in the HACC program.

– Colac-Otway Shire
– South West Do Care Inc
– Corangamite Shire Council
Ms Tierney said senior Victorians in Polwarth will also receive funding to prepare for extreme weather including heatwaves and reduce the impact of climate change in their homes.
“This extra funding assist HACC clients installing water recycling, water saving devices, low-emission temperature control measures and related home maintenance,” she said.
“This can include grey water diverters, water saving showerheads, installation of shades and other devices to maintain house temperature.
“The Victorian HACC system assists more people than any other state or territory and we are committed to continuing to grow these vital service.”
The Gillard and Brumby Labor Governments provide more than $503 million through the joint Home and Community Care (HACC) program which provides services to more than 260,000 vulnerable Victorians.
