Children and families in Aireys Inlet and Winchelsea will be well supported thanks to new grants funded by the Andrews Labor Government.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney, today announced local playgroups will share in funding from the $50,000 Great Start Community Playgroup Grants program.
Each grant of up to $1000 value will help to build new playgroups, including vouchers for toys, play equipment, books and other resources used by children and families.
The grants also include mentoring support for playgroup leaders and registration with Playgroup Victoria.
This year, grants will support two new playgroups in the Surf Coast Shire region:
- Aireys Inlet Playgroup for purchase of books, indoor play equipment, and materials for craft and gardening
- Winchelsea Playgroup for purchase of musical instruments, books and indoor/outdoor play equipment
Playgroups bring families with young children together to share in fun activities that promote children’s development. They also provide opportunities for parents to support and learn from each other.
More than 40,000 children and 30,000 families participate in playgroups in Victoria each year.
