The Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney, today welcomed the completion of the first of two bridge upgrades to improve public safety in the township of Inverleigh.
The $140,000 bridge upgrade project on Spring Creek Road, Inverleigh was completed on 3 October 2008.
The second $140,000 bridge upgrade project on Peel Road, Inverleigh would commence ahead of the planned starting on Wednesday 8 October.
Ms Tierney said both upgrade projects are required for essential maintenance on the bridge.
“The essential repair works on the two bridges include: repair and replacement of timber deck beams, and strengthening of bridge beams and piles, concrete and reinforcement works, and the repair of the timber abutment,” Ms Tierney said.
“The State Government is pleased to see repair works on the two Inverleigh bridges well ahead of schedule.
“Any temporary closures of the bridge will be managed by DC Projects using an approved site traffic management plan in liaison with the Golden Plains Shire Council.”
Works on the Peel Road, Inverleigh bridge upgrade are now expected to complete in early November.
Train freight and passenger operations are not expected to be delayed.
VicTrack who will manage the project, on behalf of the State government, had awarded a contract for the upgrade of the over rail bridge at Inverleigh to experienced bridge maintenance firm, DC Projects Pty Ltd.
VicTrack apologises for any inconvenience and urges local commuters and residents to follow safety instructions.
The works are funded under VicTrack’s Bridge Renewal Program.
