Terry Mulder and Ted Baillieu have to come clean about the Liberal Party’s dark past of selling more than 300 public schools.
The Member for Polwarth, Terry Mulder was quoted in the Colac Herald (3-9-2010) stating that a Liberal State Government would match Labor’s promise to fund the rebuild of the Apollo Bay P-12 College.
“Mr Mulder thinks if he closes his eyes, his party’s record of selling more than 300 schools will disappear – but Victorian parents won’t forget how the Liberal Party tore public education apart.
“Memories of the Liberal Party closing down and selling off more than 300 Government schools, and sacking 9000 teachers, remain fresh in the minds of Victorian parents.
The Brumby Labor Government have invited Apollo Bay P-12 into the Building Futures Program and will now prepare a case, outlining how the new building projects will be designed to lead to improved student learning and outcomes.
“This is a great opportunity for Apollo Bay P-12 to plan for new facilities specifically designed to enhance it learning styles and programs,” Ms Tierney said.
“Planning for new facilities will be guided by the Brumby Government’s Building Futures policy, which means that curriculum would inform school design.
“This is the best way of planning school buildings projects because it creates a logical fit between building design and the teaching and learning occurring within these buildings across our schools.
“However the Liberal Party is committing to fund the rebuild of schools on an ad hoc basis with no plan or direction. Their history shows they cannot be trusted.
“Coming up to an election, the Liberal party are committing to schools here and there, with no policy at all. We know what their policy looks like when they are in government.
“The Brumby Labor Government is executing its commitment, ahead of schedule, to fund the rebuilding, renovation or extension of every Victorian school by 2016.
“Whether you live in Apollo Bay, Mildura, Portland or Gippsland, the Brumby Government will not leave a single school behind no matter where it is,” Ms Tierney said.
The Brumby Labor government have committed to renovating or rebuilding every school in Victoria by 2016.
“Education is the Brumby Labor Government’s top priority, that’s why we’re investing in every school through the Victorian Schools Plan to deliver 21st century schools to ensure Victorian students are educated in modern learning environments – an investment opposed by the Liberal Party,” Ms Tierney said.
