Sport and recreation organisations in Colac and surrounding areas now have more chances to get the community involved in physical activity, thanks to a new round of Brumby Government funding.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney is encouraging local sports clubs to apply for funds under the Country Action Grant Scheme and Victalent initiatives, to increase involvement in local sports in country Victoria.
“Supporting local sport and recreation organisations is vital to maintaining the important role sport plays in our rural and regional communities,” Mr Merlino said.
“This is why the Brumby Government is continuing to support grassroots sport by offering up to $5,000 through the Country Action Grant Scheme and a $500 Victalent grant to help with travel to training or competitions,” Ms Tierney said.
The Minister for Sport and Recreation, James Merlino said the Country Action Grant Scheme and Victalent would provide a boost to sport in the Colac region and make physical activity more appealing to people in the local community.
“The Country Action Grant Scheme will help local clubs improve their operations, provide training for coaches, officials, administrators and committee members, and provide accessible activities to include people of all abilities,” Mr Merlino said.
“And the Victalent grants will help meet the travel costs of local officials, coaches, athletes and teams who frequently have to travel to train and compete.
Applications for both programs are now open. Applications for projects starting in the first half of 2008 should be submitted by 30 November 2007.
