Forty-five grassroots sport and active recreation clubs and organisations in Western Victoria are set to bolster their coaching skills, administration expertise, or score new sports equipment thanks to a share in more than $900,000 from the Victorian Government.
Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney announced the successful local applicants of the latest round of the Andrews Labor Government’s Sporting Club Grants Program.
The grants provide clubs up to $1,000 for new uniforms and equipment, up to $5,000 for training coaches, officials and volunteers, and up to $5,000 to improve club operational effectiveness.
Grant recipients who will purchase new uniform and equipment include:
- Anglesea Aireys Basketball Club to purchase first aid kits for all grades participating along with basketballs for all ages
- Anglesea Surf Lifesaving Club to purchase Water Safety Rashies 2022/23
- Athletics South West Vic to purchase Field Event Equipment
- Bannockburn Football & Netball Club to purchase Indigenous Jumpers & Dresses
- Carngham Linton Football Netball Club to purchase new match balls for 2022 Football Season
- Casterton Swimming Club to purchase uniforms for swimming club members
- Colac and District Darts Association to increase access for all abilities
- Colac Basketball Association to purchase new uniforms for additional junior teams
- Colac Football Netball Club to purchase netballs and footballs
- Colac Leisure Runners to purchase all abilities uniforms
- Colac Otway Residents Action Group for Girls That Grow
- East Framlingham Golf Club to purchase beginners equipment
- East Warrnambool Football Netball Club for defibrillator replacement
- Freshwater Creek and District Riding Club for cross country safety upgrade
- Hawks Union Basketball Club to purchase Junior Basketball Singlets
- Heywood Football Netball Club to purchase first aid kits for teams
- Illowa Tennis Club for tennis net replacement
- Koroit Football-Netball Club to purchase new Senior jumpers
- Laang Speedway Club to purchase uniforms for safety team
- Lismore Memorial Bowling Club to purchase new uniforms
- Mortlake Car Club to purchase uniforms for officials
- Nestles Rowing Club to purchase uniforms for new club members
- Orford and District Table Tennis Association to purchase O&DTTA uniform tops
- Port Fairy Petanque to purchase equipment
- Portland Boxing Club to purchase boxing helmets and boxing gloves
- Rokewood Corindhap Football Netball Club to purchase junior footballs
- Smythesdale Adult Riding Club for professional show jump fillers
- Smythesdale and District Pony Club to purchase safer jumps poles
- South West Working Equitation Club to purchase cattle yard panels
- Southern 500 speedway to purchase infield radio UHF and headsets
- Spring Creek Cricket Club for the Spring Creek Cricket Club Foundation Project
- Super Rod Association to purchase officials uniforms
- Terang and District Amateur Swimming Club to purchase new equipment
- Tomahawk Creek Cricket Club to purchase game day cricket balls
- Tyrendarra Sporting Club to purchase cricket caps for the Club
- Warrnambool BMX Club to purchase new uniforms
- Warrnambool Kart Club for Girls in Karts uniforms
- Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Bowls Club to purchase bowls for new players
- Warrnambool Wolves Soccer Club to purchase reserves kit
Clubs set to bolster their coaching or administration expertise include:
- Caramut Football Netball Club with $2,000 for Committee education and planning
- Target Rifle Victoria with $4,948 for Committee education and planning
- Wannon Zone of Pony Clubs with $5,000 for training weekend 2022
- Warrnambool Athletics Club with $2,000 for recreational running coaching course
- South West Victoria Football (Soccer) with $2,874 for SWVFA website project
- Timboon Golf Club which is receiving $2,500 to develop a Club website
The Sporting Club Grants Program is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s commitment to make community sport and active recreation more accessible and inclusive, stimulate local economies, build sustainable sport and recreation and volunteer opportunities, and increase local participation.
Since 2014, the Program has injected over $13 million to support clubs and last year provided a valuable funding lifeline to more than 4,000 clubs last year to help them through the pandemic.
