The Andrews Labor Government is backing more projects to unlock more jobs and help make Victoria’s south-west an even better place to live, work and visit through the latest round of the flagship Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund.
Minister for Regional Development Harriet Shing and Labor Member for Western Victoria today announced $940,000 for 2 projects through the latest round of the Labor Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund and Investment Fast Track Fund.
Glenelg Shire Council will receive $900,000 for their Traditional Owner and night-time activation of the Portland Foreshore project, which includes the installation of lighting along the 1.3 kilometre pedestrian pathway and the construction of a Dance and Ceremonial space for Traditional Owners on the foreshore of the Local Port of Portland.
The Council will receive another $40,000 for a feasibility study to inform the design of a Café & Indigenous Art Retail Centre in Portland.
Today’s funding for Council comes on top of an additional $50,000 the government announced earlier in the week for the installation of public seating, shelters, landscaping and upgrade of barbeques in communal activity spaces along the Portland Foreshore and main retail precincts.
There are 38 projects in rural and regional communities that will share in $20 million in funding from the Labor Government.
There are 14 successful grants as part of the Regional Infrastructure Fund and 24 successful grants from the Investment Fast Track Fund in the latest round.
From health precinct upgrades in Anglesea to the construction of a fuel station in Murrayville, the Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund supports community projects, creates new jobs, and delivers infrastructure projects that help regional and rural Victoria continue to connect and grow.
Since 2015, the Fund has backed all of rural and regional Victoria’s 48 local councils and businesses across the state to kickstart over 1,000 projects that have created 13,000 jobs.
The Fund is part of the Labor Government’s record investment of $36 billion in rural and regional Victoria since 2015. For more information on the 38 project recipients visit rdv.vic.gov.au/rjif.
