Bringing Communities Together has received a $10,000 Brumby Government grant to help continue delivering better community transport services to the Colac Otway and Surf Coast community.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney MP said the $10,000 Bringing Communities Together Partnerships grant would allow the Bringing Communities Together team to run workshops to learn strategies and identify resources needed for project’s future.
“The Brumby Government is taking action to improve transport across Victoria and our Transport Connections program is helping communities improve local transport by making better use of existing services such as taxis and school buses,” Mrs Tierney said.
Bringing Communities Together project has been a huge success because of the strong relationships between volunteers, community groups, businesses and local government.
“This new grant will use that momentum to ensure they can keep delivering transport for the local community.
“The funding will be used to hold workshops to review the project, identify strengths and opportunities for improvement, employ experts to offer advice, and produce resource kits that can be used by other communities involved in Transport Connections.”
Community Development Minister Peter Batchelor said this was one of 32 projects across Victoria to share in $320,000 as part of the latest round of funding.
“Local residents and organisations have been involved in making this success happen – and the Transport Connections Project Partnership grant of $10,000 will help keep this project going strong through a proper evaluation program.
“I congratulate everyone involved and I am sure they will continue to make a big difference to the people and businesses in the community.”
Mr Batchelor said the Brumby Government had committed a further $80 million during the next 10 years to grow the initiative as part of the $38 billion Victorian Transport Plan.
