A new fire station has been officially opened in Port Fairy with a modern facility ensuring the brigade can continue its vital work, protecting the Victorian community and saving lives for many years to come.
Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today visited the site to congratulate Port Fairy’s volunteer firefighters.
The new $2.8 million station, located at 116 Princes Hwy, provides a modern facility for the local volunteers.
Key features of the station include four generously sized engine bays providing ample space for the brigade’s appliances, enhanced kitchen facilities, training rooms, as well as separate turn-out rooms and change facilities for members. The Brigade’s unique custom built meeting room table has been safely relocated from the previous station by Brigade members.
The station has come as a welcome upgrade for the Port Fairy Fire Brigade, which formerly operated out of a facility built just after the first World War. Port Fairy’s firefighters have a long standing history protecting the community and saving lives, with the brigade first established in 1905.
The Brigade has 33 dedicated volunteers, including 24 operational firefighters, who respond to numerous structure fires, grass and scrub fires, motor vehicle accidents, alarms and calls to assist other agencies.
Brigade members have been deployed to significant events such as the 2009 Victorian bushfires and 2019-20 bushfires.
The new Port Fairy Fire Station has been delivered by the Andrews Labor Government as part of its ongoing commitment to provide Victoria’s hardworking CFA volunteers the equipment and infrastructure they need to support their communities.
