On Sunday, 2 August, on behalf of the Minister for Regional and Rural
Development, Jacinta Allan, I announced $1.35 million for a major redevelopment
of Portland airport. The modernisation works will prepare the airport for new
services, more passengers and increased maintenance contract works by extending
the apron area, expanding the maintenance hangar and providing new terminal
amenities and facilities including a conference room and developing extra
taxiways.
This is a $2.1 million works program by the Glenelg shire that
will position the airport as a modern transport asset for western Victoria.
Funding for these works has been provided to the Glenelg shire through the
Regional Aviation Fund, which is a critical part of the Regional Infrastructure
Development Fund.
So far RIDF has contributed $471 million towards 256 major
capital works projects worth $1.4 billion.
The Labor government is delighted to partner with the Glenelg
shire on this project, which will develop Portland airport into an air transport
hub that can serve the growing Portland community and is critical to the
positive regional developments that are set to take place in south-west
Victoria.
