My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Regional and Rural Development,
Jacinta Allan, and like last night it is also a request to support an important
application put together by a community in the electorate of Western Victoria
Region — on this occasion it is in relation to the Portland foreshore civic
precinct upgrade.
Many members in this house may know the Portland foreshore. It
is in the Portland area commonly known to locals and regular visitors alike as
Nun’s Beach. It is a fantastic spot situated in the centre of town within
walking distance of many accommodation providers. The great thing about Nun’s
Beach is that it is a safe family beach which lots of locals use after a busy
day at work or school. It is fantastic for young families, with its shallow
water and space for recreational activities.
The Glenelg shire has recently put in an application to the
Small Towns Development Fund to upgrade this much-loved and utilised area of
Portland. I believe this project will revitalise a very important community
facility, enhancing what is a prominent community asset whilst improving
Portland’s tourism appeal.
