Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today congratulated former schools students from the South West Coast region, who have been commended for achieving excellent results in last year’s VCE.
Last week, the Premier, Steve Bracks, presented VCE High Achiever awards to 24 students from across Victoria, with more than 250 other students receiving awards for excellence.
Local students to receive awards were:
• Aidan Nagorcka-Smith formerly from Bayview College – Information Technology
• Brighid Fitzgerald formerly from Warrnambool College – Outdoor and Environmental Studies
The 24 VCE High Achievers, gained study scores of 46 or higher in at least five VCE studies in 2006 and 2005.
“Each of these students must be congratulated for the energy and enthusiasm they have brought to their studies,” Ms. Tierney said.
“Achieving excellence in any field is a great challenge and these students have shown what can be done with passion and commitment.
Ms. Tierney said education was the Bracks Government number one priority.
“We lead the nation in Year 12 completion rates, class sizes are at an all-time low and Victorian students’ literacy and numeracy rates are at or above national and global benchmarks,” she said.
“In addition, we are undertaking the most significant schools building and modernisation program ever seen in Victoria.”
Ms. Tierney said the Bracks Government was delivering excellence in education for all students.
“Award recipients have demonstrated an energy and enthusiasm for their studies and have achieved excellent results and we wish them well in their future studies and careers.”
