MS TIERNEY– To ask the Minister for Planning (for the Minister for Roads): In relation to the intersection of Beach Road and the Surf Coast Highway:
(1) What is VicRoads doing to address the number of collisions that have occurred at the intersection after a petition was presented to the Parliament some time ago calling for traffic lights to be installed at the intersection.
(2) Will traffic lights be installed at this intersection.
ANSWER:
I am informed that, as at the date the question was raised:
The intersection of the Surf Coast Highway and Beach Road is identified in the Surf Coast Shire’s structure plan for Torquay to be controlled by traffic signals, to assist future pedestrian and traffic movements at this intersection.
VicRoads has developed a proposal for traffic signals at this intersection in line with the structure plan, and is actively working with the Surf Coast Shire to explore suitable funding opportunities to advance the installation of signals at this location.
