Last Wednesday I was in Colac to make two announcements. Firstly, the
government allocated $60 000 to the Shire of Colac Otway under the community
facility funding program, minor facilities category, for the resurfacing of six
netball courts. This government understands that quality, accessible community
sport and recreation facilities play an important role in building stronger
communities, particularly in rural and regional Victoria.
I would like to make special mention of the Colac District
Netball Association and the Colac Summer Netball Association, which have raised
a massive $80 000. Many women from these clubs are life members, and they
continue to make an unbelievable contribution on and off the court in the Colac
area.
Secondly, I made an announcement of $60 000 for the upgrade of
Lake Colac oval, which will include the levelling and shaping of oval
preparation, but particularly will provide for an automatic irrigation system,
drought-tolerant turf and a 27 000-litre water tank. These announcements are all
about encouraging clubs and councils by ensuring that they have the best
possible facilities and that we are doing our best in relation to sporting
facilities and meeting the challenges of the drought.
