The old Terang Children’s Centre has been transformed thanks to an investment from the
Victorian Government, so it can increase kindergarten places on offer to the local community from 30 to 66.
Officially opening the centre today, Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney congratulated the Corangamite Shire Council and the wider community on their support for this vital local project.
This investment reflects the Victorian Government’s commitment to enhancing early childhood education and care services and to forming great partnerships with local government, the community sector and parents, Ms Tierney said.
The $1.94 million redevelopment saw the centre upgrade from one to two kindergarten rooms. It also includes a multipurpose space for community and parent group activities, which is currently being used as a supported playgroup.
Thanks to the upgrade the centre can now run maternal and child health services, bringing vital family services and kindergarten options under the one roof for the flexibility and convenience of the community.
The Victorian Government contributed $776,000 towards the centre’s upgrade. The Corangamite Shire Council contributed $1.5 million, and the Terang Children Centre contributed $14,000.
The Andrews Labor Government is dedicated to making Victoria the Education State, by delivering up to $83.7 million over four years to support the implementation of improved educator-to-child ratios. The improved ratios are allowing staff to give more individual care and attention, and to develop even more meaningful relationships with kids, leading to better social and learning outcomes.
The Government is also investing $50 million in the early childhood sector through the building and upgrading of kindergartens and children’s centres.
Infrastructure projects such as these ensure local children’s services have the space and
flexibility they need to deliver 15 hours of kindergarten alongside a range of other vital early years programs.
