Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney MP has spoken in Parliament calling for the Baillieu Government to inform the Barwon Heads community on when and where the new Barwon Heads Kindergarten will be built.
Prior to the November 2010 election work had commenced on identifying an appropriate site and time-line for construction by the Brumby Government, City of Greater Geelong councillors and council staff.
Ms Tierney said the Baillieu Government promised $1 million to build the Barwon Heads Kindergarten leading into the election however since being elected has done nothing further.
“I am advised that since the election Mr Katos has not met with the very active kindergarten committee at all.
“The Barwon Heads community are in the dark as to where that promise is and in the dark as to what the potential site for the new kindergarten might be.
“I ask the Minister to provide me and the people of Barwon Heads with information on when the funding will be provided and when the promise made by the Baillieu Government will be provided,” Ms Tierney said.
The adjournment motion was directed towards the Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development, Wendy Lovell who was in the House and responded to Ms Tierney’s adjournment matter.
However Ms Lovell failed to shed any light on timelines and implementation of this election promise stating that the department has advised that it has had discussions and is working with the City of Greater Geelong.
Ms Lovell also stated that Andrew Katos has been very active in progressing the commitment; however she did no go into any detail on how this was progressing.
