Better facilities are on their way for students at six south west schools with works commencing on important upgrades thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.
Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney announced works are underway at Bolwarra Primary School, Allansford and District Primary School, Warrnambool Primary School, Cobden Primary School, Forrest Primary School and Hawkesdale P12 College.
The Labor Government has provided $379,750 to deliver the following projects:
Warrnambool Primary School | $145,165 | Internal and external painting works |
Allansford and District Primary School | $73,120 | We are helping the school to upgrade and repair the outdoor play space. |
Cobden Primary School | $40,104 | We are supporting the removal of an old playground to create a more inviting landscaped area. |
Forrest Primary School | $26,120 | We are supporting the upgrade of outdoor equipment to make safe play areas. |
Hawkesdale P12 College | $30,120 | We are supporting the creation of an all-weather outdoor learning and recreation space. |
Bolwarra Primary School | $65,120 | We are helping the school to upgrade the playground and install new equipment. |
In the past five years, the Victorian Government has invested more than $9 billion in more than 1,600 school upgrades – creating more than 10,000 construction jobs – and is now ahead of schedule its commitment to open 100 new schools by 2026, with 48 new schools opening between 2019 and 2022.
While much of this funding went on new schools and significant upgrades to help meet increasing demand, the Minor Capital Works fund is about delivering the small projects that make a big difference while also supporting local jobs.
Projects through the Minor Capital Works Fund will be progressively delivered with all projects to be completed by the end of 2022.
The Victorian Budget 2020/21 invests $70 million in the new Minor Capital Works Fund, which includes $20 million as previously announced as part of the Building Works Package.
More than 300 Victorian government schools have been allocated funding to fast-track priority projects under the Minor Capital Works Fund to improve learning environments as well as the condition and character of schools.
