The Allan Labor Government is getting on with major landslip repairs and resilience works to make one of south west Victoria’s key inland routes safer.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne today announced works on Forrest-Apollo Bay Road are set to begin as part of a $255 million Labor Government investment to improve the Great Ocean Road and its inland routes – which are vital for tourism, freight and local communities.
The works have been brought forward for the safety of motorists travelling along the road and will take approximately five months to complete, delivering a new retaining wall, pavement and barriers to keep motorists safe.
The geotechnical engineering works along Forrest-Apollo Bay Road are essential to improve the longevity of the roadside landscape and improve safety for all road users travelling across the network.
During the summer holiday period, construction will pause on the project and recommence in early 2025.
The Labor Government has kicked off a $964 million road maintenance blitz, with crews to complete thousands of projects to rebuild, repair and resurface roads rights across the state.
More than 200 sites across regional Victoria’s busiest travel and freight routes will undergo works during this blitz, including the Princes Highway, the Monaro Highway, the Western Highway and the Goulburn Valley Highway.
