On another matter, the community of Allansford came together on 2 August for the
official opening of the redeveloped Allansford mechanics hall. The Brumby Labor
government contributed $132 500 from the Small Towns Development Fund to this
project. The day was a real celebration, particularly for Bev Byron, secretary
of the hall committee, but also for Bill Chislett, the hall president for the
last 46 years, who turned 86 that day. Congratulations and well done to all the
hall’s committee members.
