Gayle is proud to serve the Victorian community as Minister for Skills & TAFE, and Minister for Regional Development.

After three years as Minister for Skills & TAFE, in 2019 the Labor Government delivered one of the most significant reforms in generations – Free TAFE. This major policy is now a reality for all Australians.

This policy is driven by a passion to ensure all Victorians have access to quality education, skills and training which leads to meaningful careers.

Free TAFE has been complimented by significant capital works in TAFEs, throughout Victoria, especially in regional locations. This has been instrumental in enabling regional and rural people gain the skills that are needed by their communities, in their communities, from Warrnambool to Mildura, Ballarat to Gippsland, Geelong to Shepparton, regional Victoria is now home to state-of-the-art facilities delivering quality skills and training in important and much needed careers in health, childcare, construction and agriculture to name a few.

Together with TAFEs, students, teachers and industries across the State, Gayle has strengthened the sector, and put TAFE and vocational training back on the map as a valued educational pathway that leads to real career opportunities.

Gayle is committed to working with our world class universities to break glass-ceilings in research, educational innovation, and access to tertiary education.

Western Victoria is Gayle’s home, and she understands the important role regional communities and industries play in the success of our local, state, and national economies. In 2023 Gayle was appointed Minister for Regional Development, which works in perfect unison with the Skills & TAFE portfolio. Economic development is underpinned by a skilled and qualified workforce, and that is what TAFEs do, equip our workforces with skills and training that will resonate for generations. Gayle is absolutely committed to work with regional Victorians to strengthen and promote regional and rural Victoria.

The combination of the Skills & TAFE and Regional Development portfolios ensures that Gayle will be able to continue to drive and oversee exceptional programs for regional and rural Victoria that are connected and have quality social and economic outcomes.
