Fans of Grovedale Tigers Football Netball Club can now catch all the instant highlights and more on the big screen, thanks to a new LED scoreboard at Burdoo Recreation Reserve.
Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney today joined Greater Geelong Mayor, Cr Trent Sullivan and club representatives to officially launch the new electronic scoreboard and goal netting, made possible by a $175,000 investment from the Victorian Government.
With over 720 players, the club is at the heart of community sport and the new scoreboard provides players and fans a chance to catch all the action around the ground.
It adds a whole new dimension to local sport, showcasing the achievements of the club on the big screen.
There’s also an opportunity for local community groups and businesses to take advantage of the scoreboard to broadcast local initiatives, upcoming events and promotions.
The new AFL standard goal netting ensures players spend less time jumping the oval fence and retrieving stray balls. This means more time in the game and a safer environment for fans.
The Victorian Government has invested more than $2.3 billion in community sport and active recreation infrastructure over the past decade.
Investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, levelling the playing field and improving the health, wellbeing, and social outcomes for Victorian communities.
Gayle Tierney MP acknowledged the City of Greater Geelong for its financial contribution of $50,000 and commitment to delivering the project.
