During the past few weeks I have met with many local government representatives and community groups to share the joy over successful projects and applications for future projects. These include a number of local men’s sheds at Winchelsea, Anglesea and Camperdown. Local bowling clubs, Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Bowling Club and Derrinallum Bowling Club, both received $60 000. There is a new $125 000 tanker for the Barwon Downs Country Fire Authority unit, and there was the opening of the Barwon Downs History Centre and the celebration of the township’s 100th anniversary. Anglesea Tennis Club’s project to light up Anglesea tennis, and local playground redevelopments in Timboon and Dennington received $60 000 each. The Toolong community hall redevelopment that I mentioned yesterday received $110 000, and there was just under $232 000 for the Terang community fitness hub.
The Brumby Labor government continually expresses its support for rural and regional Victoria through funding programs such as the Small Towns Development Fund and the drought relief for community sport and recreation program which are funding Victorian community facilities. Throughout the 11 years of this state Labor government regional Victoria has been taken from a disregarded, ignored, continually overlooked part of this state under the Liberal government to a thriving, healthy and strong economic component of what makes this state the best place to work, live and raise a family. This government will continue to work with local councils, community groups and individuals.
