Footballers and netballers in Camperdown will enjoy better sporting facilities thanks to a Brumby Government program to upgrade community sports facilities across Victoria.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney announced that as part of the $10 million Country Football and Netball Program, the Camperdown Football Netball Club would receive $20,000 for:
• The extension and widening of the two netball courts at Leura Oval
• Improved and expanded change rooms and suitable shelter for netball players and spectators
“This funding will help regional communities upgrade and improve the sports facilities which are regularly used by locals to play, train and attend matches,” Ms Tierney said.
Ms Tierney said the grant would provide a significant boost for the club and the local community.
“Local clubs like the Camperdown Football Netball Club are the lifeblood of football and netball in our local community, which is why the Brumby Government is committed to supporting grassroots sporting clubs and associations,” she said.
“We want to make it easier for all the players, coaches and supporters to stay involved in the games they love and encourage the community to lead healthy and active lifestyles.
“The Country Football and Netball Program is a great way to recognise the hard work put in by everyone involved in the club and to help them score goals on and off the field.”
The Minister for Sport and Recreation, James Merlino, said the Brumby Government’s Country Football Netball Program, has invested over $6 million towards the redevelopment and construction of more than 170 community sporting facilities.
“This funding represents the Brumby Government’s commitment to provide quality sport and recreation facilities across Victoria,” Mr Merlino said.
“We want people to stay healthy and physically active, which is what our Go for your life campaign is all about – getting more Victorians involved in sport and recreation in their local community.”
