Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today congratulated the Otway Estate – Winery and Brewery from Barongarook for being honoured at the Melbourne Airport 2008 Victorian Tourism Awards.
Otway Estate – Winery and Brewery received the Minister for Tourism’s Encouragement Award.
“The tourism industry is worth $15.1 billion to the Victorian economy and provides jobs for more than 179,000 people,” Ms Tierney said.
“Otway Estate – Winery and Brewery is a great contributor to the local economy and community in the Colac Otway region and can be rightly proud of being recognised in this way.”
“The Awards, which have been running for more than two decades, are a reflection of the high standard of the Victorian tourism industry and cement the State’s reputation as a world-class tourism destination,” Ms Tierney said.
Winners were announced across 31 categories, including three awards honouring personal contributions to the tourism industry.
More than 120 businesses and individuals competed for top honours in this year’s awards, including many from regional Victoria.
Winners of the Melbourne Airport 2008 Victorian Tourism Awards will represent Victoria at the 2008 Australian Tourism Awards to be held in Melbourne in February 2009.
