Five rising Victorian sports stars and teams in Western Victoria have been awarded pathway grants enabling them to compete at the top level.
Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today announced five grants have been approved in the electorate from the Government’s Athlete Pathway Grants Program.
Recipients of the grant include:
South West Academy of Sport | Elite Travel for South West Academy of Sport Regional Athletes | $6,000 |
Anglesea Surf Lifesaving Club Inc. | Anglesea SLSC R&R team travel costs to the Aussies event | $2,000 |
Athletics South West Turbines | Travel to training and compete – Grace Carter | $750 |
Country Hockey Umpires Inc | Attending Country Championship for Assessments and Coaching | $2,000 |
Riding for the Disabled – Colac | Educating volunteers to use a cart for Horse Riding | $2,000 |
The program benefits athletes and teams from a wide range of sport and recreation activities; from surfing to goalball and archery to ten pin bowls and helps address the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on many of our athletes’ travel plans.
Since the grants were introduced by the Victorian Government in 2015, 1630 grants have been awarded, totalling more than $2.9 million helping teams and individual athletes reach their goal.
The grants are part of the Government’s strong commitment to sport and active recreation, gender equality and encouraging all Victorians to get out there and get active.
Since 2014, the Victorian Government has invested more than $1 billion in community sport and recreation infrastructure.
