Community input is being sought ahead of a $448,000 upgrade of Dando’s Campground in the Otways.
Labor Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney said the upgrade is part of Victoria’s Great Outdoors, a $105.6 million Victorian Government investment to boost regional economies by upgrading and building better facilities in forests and parks including tracks, trails and campgrounds.
A community survey has been released today, asking residents to share their preferences on aspects of the planned works at Dando’s Campground on the Gellibrand River, near Gellibrand.
Approximately 40,000 people visit Dando’s Campground every year and visitation is expected to increase to 60,000 visitors per year, following the delivery of new facilities and improvements to the site layout.
The project will deliver approximately 20 new camping sites catering for camper trailers, campervans and tents.
Works will include the installation of a toilet block, picnic tables, firepits and picnic shelters, while internal roads at the site will also be resurfaced.
Landscaping works will see the addition of hundreds of native plants and trees, with new eucalyptus and wattle trees to provide a canopy of shade around the campground.

Hard copies are available at the Gellibrand River Store and Café and the Forrest General Store and Caravan Park.
The survey closes on Thursday 29 April 2021. Community input will be incorporated into the planning and design of the works.
