The Andrews Labor Government is supporting community and history organisations to capture Western Victoria’s diverse history, making it available for more people to discover and enjoy.
The latest round of the Local History Grants saw 40 projects share in $350,000 as part of the program run by Public Record Office Victoria to support community and history organisations to preserve, record and share Victoria’s local history.
This year’s successful grant recipients include:
- Anglesea and District Historical Society Inc, $11,000 to assess their collection’s historical significance and preservation needs
- Apollo Bay and District Historical Society Inc, $9,230 for their Showcasing our Past project
- Camperdown and District Historical Society, $5,024 to digitise Western Press and Hampden Guardian to Trove
- Geelong Regional Library, $15,000 to invite First Nations People to explore the GHC archive and connected contemporary oral history project
- Queenscliffe Maritime Museum, $5,500 to install permanent interpretative signage on outdoor exhibits
Other successful projects across the state will help Victoria’s history reach everyone in the community through interactive online exhibitions, podcasts, e-books, history apps and oral histories.
The Local History Grants program is supported by the Andrews Labor Government through the Community Support Fund.
